Hilarious ‘MOST LIKE OWNER’ Dog Competition.

The upcoming Back to Steiglitz Reunion isn’t some dry old get-

together where oldies just talk about the past. This day focuses on

appreciating what we have right here, right now… and enjoying it all.

Which is why it’s filled with fun activities. There’s something for all the

family at this fundraiser, including your beloved family dog… such as our

laughter-filled ‘Most Like Owner’ dog competition. Blood lines, breed of

dog, ability to do tricks – none of that matters here in Steiglitz. Instead,

we’ll be looking at personality & appearance, similar temperament,

behaviours, and yes, perhaps even shared physical attributes or dress

sense. A big heads up… since this is about fun, wigs are allowed!

As mentioned, this event’s also a Fundraiser. Run by the Back to

Steiglitz Association, the NfP group uses all proceeds to repair &

maintain the authentic gold-rush era buildings. Meaning, every dollar

you spend or donate keeps these buildings alive, for everyone to enjoy.

So, to make spending easier, most activities are donation only. Including

our delicious home-cooked foods served in the old blacksmith’s cottage.

Yep, you read correctly – donation only! Though being the last town in

Vic without electricity means no ATMs or card machines – so stock up

on cash!

Many activities are free too, such as live performances by famous band,

The Inklings, or our local band of ukelele players. Car clubs. Large art

exhibition. Performance Art. Recitals of Aussie poetry. A children’s

reading by local author, of her book, ‘Gretel Petal & the Blooming City.’

Entry to all public buildings. And a variety of historic displays & folders

overflowing with family histories, photos & memorabilia.

Then there’s a Sausage Sizzle, Gumboot throwing competition, kids

games, numerous displays by Creatives – with the Spinners & Weavers

Guild, wonderful tatting & home-made quilts (many for sale), and at least

3 different tours.

Along with stalls - Plants, Trash & Treasure, Hand-made dolls, Local

prize-winning Angora wool, Honey & bee-keeping equipment, and

delicious local Hand-made dog treats.

Though the biggest fundraiser has always been our Raffle. Tickets are

only sold on the day, the prize table’s already laden down (everything

from hampers, through to Fairy Park passes & bottles of wine), and

winners must be present.

My favourite free event is the Youngest & Oldest attendees. While the

two youngest children each receive a book, our winning Elders enjoy the

thrill of a basket bursting with treats.

As I’m typing my phone’s still ringing with others wanting to be involved,

so who knows what else you’ll find, which adds to the excitement of the

day.

So come on, don’t miss out! Bring the family to enjoy the serenity. Let

the kids run in our open spaces. Eat home-cooking, just like Grandma’s.

Purchase a one-off sculpture or quilt. Discover how far you can throw a

gumboot. Buy a book from the author herself. Or give the family pooch a

chance to be a star, in our first-ever ‘Most Like Owner’ competition!
